environment
Have you ever seen the movie FernGully, or Avatar, or Disney's Moana? I feel like they perfectly depict how connected we are to this earth - or at least that's how I feel. I love our planet & want to be able to say that for many, many years to come.
I first started learning about climate change when I was 11 years old. It triggered so many panic attacks, at the thought of the world I love crumbling to an end, by our own doing.
There are so many things we can do, to slow down & end climate change. Working together, raising awareness & doing our part, we can save this beautiful planet.
Please use the resources below, educate yourself on ways to get involved & protect our Mother Earth.
How to help save the planet
donate
Donate to organisations that help our planet.
There are many organisations & movements that are on the same mission, to end climate change & make our world a better place. Many whom need donations to operate properly & achieve this goal.
Take a look below at the various organisations you can support.
use your voice
Using your voice is a crucial part in helping our planet. Speaking on behalf of Mother Nature & standing up for the future of the planet.
You can do this by reaching out to government, politicians & world leaders who are currently making decisions about the future of OUR planet.
Tag them in posts online, write letters & emails, Tweet them. Let them know your concerns & demand a change.
vote
Practice your right to vote. Use your opportunity to vote, for the people you want to lead our society - that care about the global climate crisis.
Research the stance that the candidates running for positions of power have on the environment. How do they intend to help? What will they do, to make a difference?
Vote for leaders that will lead us into a sustainable future.
reduce, reuse, recycle
Something that EVERYONE is able to do, is reduce, reuse & recycle. What does this mean?
Reduce - reducing the amount of non-essential things your consume. Energy / Power / Electricity, Water, Fuel, Meat, Waste. Start to make changes to your daily life & recognise where you are able to cut back on unnecessary things. Do you need a 15 minute shower, when you can do it in 5? Have you got things switched on, that don't need to be? Do you need to drive, if you can walk there? Re-evaluate what you're currently doing & make those small changes, because they will make a BIG difference.
Reuse - Stop using single use items.Use things that you can reuse over & over. Reusable coffee cups & cutlery. Tote bags instead of plastic bags.
Recycle - Be more mindful of things you throw away. Can they be recycled? Check on the packaging for the recycle symbol, to identify if they can be recycled. Purchase a composting bin / kitchen caddy for your kitchen, to throw your scraps away & then donate to composting collectors.
educating yourself & others
Learning about what is happening to the planet is usually the biggest incentive to make a difference. At times it can feel very overwhelming, knowing that there are so many things happening to the planet that are all because of our own doing. However! Knowing this encourages me more than anything. Knowing that it's down to us to make the changes & better our world. We can do this!
What's just as important as you learning about climate change? ... Teaching others! Spreading awareness vital in helping the world understand how desperately we need their collective efforts & help. There's a quote I love, which I think explains what we need, brilliantly:
'We don't need 1 million people living a zero waste life perfectly. We need 1 billion people living a zero waste life imperfectly'.
This meaning, if everyone were to make a small change in their life, SO many of the issues related to climate change would be minimised. So let's do it! There are endless resources, to help further your knowledge - many listed below.
